Abstract

In this paper, we explore how progress indications within the context of gamification design can be targeted to the individual needs of young adults within a socio-spatial context. Based on a literature review, we analyze current perspectives on progress indicators within recent gamification research. Further, we analyze the target groups gamification design preferences via a player type analysis of young adults in order to develop design strategies for progress indication tailored to the target group in the specific context of youth participation in local social offers. As a result, we present gamified design approaches for progress indicators within a mobile app, enhancing the empowerment of young adults in a socio-spatial setting. We thereby establish foundations for future studies examining target group focused gamification strategies for young adults.
